SOCI seeks community leaders passionate about early education and economic prosperity in Kansas City who can volunteer time and energy to advance our mission to help Kansas City children and their parents thrive. We are an entrepreneurial board and seek board members who enjoy growing an organization through an entrepreneurial lens.
Board roles and expectations include:
Strategic Advisor: Board members play an active role in developing the organizational strategy.
Governance: Board members provide oversight and accountability for the executive director, including determination of annual compensation, and ensure sound organizational policies and procedures to uphold fiduciary responsibilities.
Fundraising: It is expected that board members engage their networks and participate in meetings to identify, cultivate, and solicit potential donors each year. The board supports the executive director with fundraising activities as needed.
Community Engagement: Board members champion the organization in interactions with their networks and throughout external engagements with the broader community in order to spread awareness of SOCI’s mission and increase opportunities for support.
Active Participation: The SOCI board meets every other month for 90 minutes. It is expected that a board member participate in at least 75% of the meetings annually (virtually or in-person).
