Therapy Chair

About the Role

The Therapy Chair brings a strong mental health perspective to the Bridges Board and helps ensure our education and support initiatives reflect a meaningful understanding of trauma, coercive control, healthy relationships, and family systems. This role also helps connect Bridges with qualified mental health professionals who can contribute their expertise to our community education.

Ideal Candidate

• Licensed mental health professional with meaningful clinical experience.

• Demonstrated understanding of trauma, coercive control, psychological and emotional abuse, and power-and-control dynamics within relationships and families.

• Able to distinguish ordinary relationship conflict from patterns involving coercion, intimidation, abuse, or significant power imbalance.

• Collaborative, practical, and interested in community education, prevention, and helping people recognize healthy and unhealthy relationship dynamics.

Board Responsibilities

Term: One year  |  Time Commitment: Approximately 5-8 hours per month, including monthly Board of Directors meetings beginning January 2027, committee leadership, and early planning or collaboration. Additional time may be needed for special projects and events, with opportunities to contribute more during this early growth stage.

• Attend monthly Board of Directors meetings and actively participate in discussion, planning, and decision-making.

• Commit approximately one-two hours per week to planning, committee, outreach, or other Bridges activities, with opportunities to contribute additional time to launch Bridges.

• Make an annual financial contribution meaningful to you and consistent with your ability.

• Actively advocate for Bridges by sharing our mission, promoting events and initiatives, and helping expand awareness in the community.

• Use your professional experience, relationships, and community connections to help Bridges develop partnerships, identify resources, and open doors that further the mission.

Therapy Committee Responsibilities

• Help Bridges leadership build the Education Committee and share responsibility for welcoming, organizing, and leading committee members.

• Lead Education Committee meetings and help keep the committee focused on practical priorities.

• Bring a trauma-informed mental health perspective to Bridges programs, education, and strategic decisions.

• Help develop relationships with therapists and other mental health professionals who may serve as educators, referral resources, or community partners.

• Help plan the educational component of Modern Wives Club workshops and develop a rotation of qualified providers to teach on healthy relationships, family systems, trauma, communication, boundaries, coercive control, and related topics.

• Help identify responsible educational resources and community supports for individuals and families navigating difficult relationships or transitions.

Note: This is a Board leadership and educational role and does not require the Therapy Chair to provide therapy to Bridges participants.
